Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde has announced that construction work will be accelerated on the 400-km Konkan expressway between Raigad and Sindhudurg. The expressway will be developed on the lines of the Samruddhi Mahamarg that connects Mumbai to Nagpur. A detailed project report on the expressway is in the works.
To be completed in 4 years, the project is estimated to cost around Rs 9,573 crore. To be constructed by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the Konkan expressway is being planned to be implemented in four phases of 100-125 kms each from Chirle, Panvel to Patradevi in Sindhudurg.
Once it becomes operational, the expressway will cut the travel time between Raigad and Sindhudurg five hours.
MSRDC’s plan for the Konkan expressway includes construction of road over water on creeks, roads connecting ports, industrial nodes, religious places, resting and parking facilities among others. Additionally, construction of connecting roads and beautification of 27 places is also being considered.
