January 11, 2024: Â In a bid to curb danger, obstructions and inconvenience to the public, a maximum speed limit of 100 kmph has been set for vehicles to travel on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the Maharashtra Police have said.
Vehicles including cars, taxis, light motor vehicles (LMV), mini-buses and two- axle buses are allowed to use the longest sea-bridge in India. According to the statement issues by the police, the speed on the ascent and descent on the sea-bridge will be restricted to 40kmph.
Two-wheelers, auto rickshaws, motor bikes, animal-drawn vehicles, slow-moving vehicles and tractors will not be allowed to use the sea bridge, highlighted the statement issued by the Maharashtra Police.
Note that multi-axle heavy vehicles, trucks and buses that are going towards Mumbai will not get entry into the Eastern Freeway once the MTHL ends. These vehicles will have to use the Mumbai Port-Sewri Exit (Exit 1C) and take the MBPT Road near Gadi Adda to go towards Mumbai.
Also known as the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link, the MTHL was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12, 2024. The MTHL will originate from Sewri in Mumbai and will end at the Nhava Sheva in Uran Taluka in Raigad District. This bridge will reduce travel time from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai to 20 minutes from the approximate 2 hours that it takes.
