This action was initiated by the MCD’s Assessment and Collection department to address the issue of non-payment of property taxes in various zones.
In the recent crackdown, the Assessment and Collection department targeted 74 commercial and industrial properties, totaling Rs 23.81 crore in outstanding taxes. These properties are situated in diverse areas, including Mahipalpur, Rohini, Dwarka, Netaji Subhash Place, Mahavir Enclave, Wazirpur Industrial Area, Anand Parvat, Saket District Centre, Shakurpur, Rithala, Saroop Nagar, Budh Vihar, Punjabi Bagh, Ashok Vihar and Siraspur.
Furthermore, the civic body is actively pursuing legal actions against significant tax defaulters. In cases where taxpayers do not settle their overdue taxes, the Municipal Corporation is prepared to take additional steps, including the auctioning of these attached properties. To ensure compliance, the Municipal Corporation has issued online notices to over five lakh taxpayers who failed to file their taxes for either the fiscal year 2021-22 or 2022-23. Taxpayers are urged to fulfill their tax obligations within 15 days, and failure to comply may result in coercive actions as per the provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.
