March 13, 2024: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will offer a rebate of 15% for property owners who are still to pay property tax arrears. Also, the MCG under the waiver plan is offering 100% waiver on interest on property tax for FY 2023-24.
The scheme will continue till March 31, helping the municipal body recover taxes.
According to a ToI report, of the Rs 500 crore target for property tax collection, the MCG has been able to only recover Rs 187 crore. As per the property tax rules, any property owner who fails to pay the property tax, a major source of revenue for the municipal body will have to pay an interest at 18% per annum as penalty.
