Around 11% reservation set for MPs, MLAs , state, centre and Mhada employees under Mhada housing’s EWS and LIG category will be canceled, as per a proposal sent to the state government by Mhada.

The Mhada will replace these reservation categories with that of transgender, oppressed women, senior citizens and unorganised workers. As per reports, of the 11%, transgender will get 1% reservation, oppressed women will get 4% reservation, senior citizens will get 2% reservation and unorganised workers will get 4% reservation  in the EWS and LIG category.

According to a HT report, 75 flats under the EWS and LIG segment and  three each in the MIG and HIG segment are reserved for MPs and MLAs. Vaishali Gadpale, chief public relations officer told HT that it was mandatory for Mhada to have reservations for MPs and MLAs as per rules framed in 1981. “Mhada does not have the right to change this. However, given the salaries of MPs and MLAs, which are way above Mhada’s income classification, a committee was set up to look into it and recommended that the EWS category reservation for MPs and MLAs be removed. Mhada has accepted this but the final decision it will be taken by the state government.” In case there are no applications from MPs and MLAs in the lottery, all these reserved flats would be made available to people in the general category.
