Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has been directed to pay retrospective rent to members of Siddharth Nagar Patra Chawl Sahakari Housing Society. This is following a writ petition that was filed with the Bombay High Court seeking information for payment of rent to the 672 members.
These members who had vacated the place spread over 47 acre are eligible for transit rent and permanent re-accommodation.
According to the government resolution dated July 9, 2021, development of partly constructed rehabilitation buildings in Patra Chawl has been taken over by the Mhada. The deadline for the project construction work is May 2024.
According to a letter dated October 11, 2022, and April 12, 2023, the Maharashtra government has instructed the Mhada to pay rent to eligible authorised members of the society from the date from which the project was taken over by the authority.
To verify authorised members of the society, the Mhada has set up a committee under the chairmanship of the deputy registrar cooperative societies (Western Suburbs) Mumbai board.
To receive the rent, all the society members have to submit original membership documents, copies of Aadhaar card, bank account details, including member name and account number, IFSC code and copies of passbook front page, etc., to the committee. After verification, the rent amount will be deposited in the member’s account.

In April 2023, more than 1,700 homebuyers got relief after the Bombay High Court directed the Mhada to issue occupancy certificates (OC) to the rehabilitation and free sale component buildings in the Patra Chawl and Siddharth Nagar Redevelopment Project at Goregaon.
