In a bid to ease traffic congestion in Thane and enable faster movement to Navi Mumbai, the MMRDA has decided to construct a bridge between Kopri on the Thane side and Patni on the Navi Mumbai side. For the same, the MMRDA has invited tenders.

The bridge will be around 600 m, with approach roads of 400 m.  The cost of the bridge is expected to be around Rs 234 crore.

The existing route from Thane to Navi Mumbai is through Thane, Kalwa, Digha and then to the Belapur road which takes around 30-45 minutes. With this bridge in place, travel time is expected to reduce to less than 15 minutes. With the bridge, traffic around Knowledge Park, Airoli, Vitawa and Thane will also substantially reduce.
