Mohali records Punjab’s highest property tax collection in FY23

The Budget allocation for FY23 as approved by the Punjab government for Mohali was Rs 22 crore.

The Mohali Municipal Corporation has recorded the highest property tax in Punjab for FY 2022-23. According to Municipal commissioner Navjot Kaur, the Mohali civic body has collected Rs 33.36 crore in from the defaulters by March-end. Considering this as base, the MC has proposed a collection of Rs 33 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal budget. The budget allocation for FY 2022-23 as approved by the Punjab government for Mohali MC was Rs 22 crore.

The Patiala MC attained the second spot with a collection of Rs 19.34 crore and Zirakpur MC with a collection of Rs 17.38 crore, Kaur said.

According to the municipal commissioner, MC sealed defaulting units, forcing commercial property owners to deposit pending property tax. The MC put up property tax collection camps at MIA Bhawan, Industrial Area and community centers at Sectors 61, 69, and 70.

Further, under the semi-urban centre category, Derabassi and Kurali MCs attained the first and second spots with highest property tax collection with Rs 2.11 crore and Rs 1.19 crore, respectively.
