All about the Mumbai Hyderabad Bullet Train

This project is a part of India’s plan to build six high-speed rail corridors, with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad line already in progress.

The Mumbai Hyderabad route that takes around 16 hours by long distance train. The distance between the two cities is around 710 km and takes over 12 hours by road. However, the travel time between the two destinations may be cut to only three hours going forward. This will made possible by the Mumbai Hyderabad High Speed Rail (MHHSR) that has been proposed. This project is a part of India’s plan to build six high-speed rail corridors, with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad line already in progress.

What is the proposed Mumbai Hyderabad High Speed Rail?

 

The Mumbai Hyderabad High Speed Rail is a proposed 767-km bullet train corridor that will connect Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad. Touted to be an extremely fast train, the Mumbai Hyderabad Bullet Train will run at 320 km/hr. It will be peak at 350 km/hr. There will be 11 stations through which the bullet train will pass. With the Navi Mumbai International Airport to start operations soon, it is expected to be one of the potential stations in this rail corridor.

This is a proposed route and no construction has begun. Presently, there are surveys and feasibility studies that are going on since 2020.

Each bullet train will accommodate around 750 passengers. The bullet train is proposed to have features such as earthquake detection systems, digital signals, under-ground, elevated and at-grade tracks. Based on the features available, the ticket cost of the Mumbai Hyderabad Bullet Train is expected to be around 1.5 times the first-class AC train fare.
