Mumbai Metro 10 to have double decker design; aims completion by 2027

The metro will run above an elevated road between Gaimukh and Fountain Hotel.

September 22, 2023: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has started work on the Mumbai Metro 10 with an aim to complete it by 2027.  Also known as the Green Line extension, the 10-km metro line will start at Gaimukh and end at Mira Road (connecting Mumbai Metro 4 and Mira Road).

It is planned to have a double decker design that will run above an elevated road for four km between Gaimukh and Fountain Hotel on National Highway-8 (NH8). MMRDA has already appointed consultants for the project and is awaiting environmental clearance before floating tenders for the project. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 4,476 crore.

Mumbai Metro Line 10 will use the same depot at Mogherpada that will be used by Mumbai Metro Line 4, Mumbai Metro Line 4A and Mumbai Metro Line 11.

The foundation stone of the Mumbai Metro Line 10 was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019. Once completed, it is expected to provide connectivity between Mira-Bhayander, Thane, Borivali and other parts of Mumbai.
