The National Highway 9, also known as the NH9, is a major highway in India that spans over 1,600 km. It starts in Malout, Punjab, and terminates in Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand, passing through Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Originally, the NH9 was formed by merging five separate national highways in 2010.These highways included Old NH10 (Fazilka-Delhi section), Old NH24 (Delhi-Rampur section), Old NH87 (Rampur-Rudrapur section), Old NH74 (Rudrapur-Sitarganj-Khatima section) and OldNH 125 (Tanakpur-Pithoragarh section).

NH9: Route

The route of the NH9 passes through several important cities in five states in North India.

  • Punjab: The NH9 starts at Malout in Punjab and passes through several towns and villages in the state before entering Haryana.
  • Haryana: In Haryana, the NH9 connects several important cities such as Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Hansi, Maham, Rohtak and Bahadurgarh.
  • Delhi: The NH9 passes through Delhi for a short stretch.
  • Uttar Pradesh: In Uttar Pradesh, the NH9 connects major cities such as Ghaziabad, Hapur, Moradabad and Rampur.
  • Uttarakhand: The NH9 enters Uttarakhand at the town of Rudrapur and passes through several other towns such as Kichha, Sitarganj, Khatima, Tanakpur, Pithoragarh, Ogla and Askot.
