The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has submitted its draft development plan to the Maharashtra government for approval. This is the first plan developed by the municipal body since its inception 33 years ago. The plan focuses on developing the city towards growth in the next twenty years.
The draft development plan was published on August 10, 2022, under Section 26(1) of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act 1966. As per media reports, over 16, 000 suggestions and objections were received for this draft plan. The NMMC formed a committee that worked on these areas of concern and a detailed report was submitted on February 16, 2024.
As per media reports, the submitted draft plan focuses on developing sports facilities, redevelopment of schools and buildings and developing new public spaces and amenities. Areas including Airoli, Digha, Ilathan, Borivali, Adivali, and Bhootvali will be given more importance from a development perspective as these have not been developed upto the potential they hold.
