January 24, 2024: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed Ghaziabad builder Nipun Builders and Developers to stop the construction of its group housing project Nipun Saffron Valley as it doesn’t comply with the environmental norms.
According to media reports, a bench of NGT chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava said that as per the report of an earlier constituted panel, the Nipun Saffron Valley Project did not comply with environmental clearance (EC) conditions. It also did not have a functional Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and rainwater harvesting system.
The other violations by the project included it being operational without consent to operate (CTO) from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (PCB) under the Water Act and Air Act, mentioned media reports. Also, the Uttar Pradesh PCB had levied a fine of Rs 1.38 crore on the realtor which hasn’t been paid yet.
The NGT has also ordered the UP PCB to take remedial, preventive action against any violation and report in three weeks on the action it plans to take, as mentioned in media reports. The next hearing regarding this matter is on March 19.
