The NMMS fellowship scheme has been introduced by the department of school education and literacy within the ministry of human resource development. Through this scholarship programme, the government will give financial incentives to deserving students from the economically disadvantaged part of society. It is to reduce the dropout rate in class 8 because of the students’ socioeconomic situation.

The program aims to provide scholarships to deserving students from economically disadvantaged communities to inspire them to carry on their schooling at the secondary level.

 

NMMS scholarship: Criteria for scholarship eligibility

  • The data on enrollment of learners in grades 7 and 8 and their population in the relevant states are retrieved. Based on that, the proportion of scholarships granted to each state and UT is calculated.
  • The fellowship is available to students whose total parental income does not exceed Rs. 3,50,00/- per year.
  • To be eligible for the interview process for a scholarship, individuals must have earned at least 55% of the possible points in their class VII assessment or a comparable grade. For SC/ST candidates, this requirement may be relaxed by 5%.
  • The winners must get at least 60% in class 10, relaxable by 5% for SC/ST to continue receiving the fellowship at the intermediate higher secondary level of class 10.
  • The students should be enrolled in a government-run, government-aided, or local authority-run school as ordinary students.
  • The award is unavailable to NVS, KVS, or residential school students.
  • Students enrolled in residential schools managed by state government organisations that offer boarding, lodging, and educational services are not eligible to apply.

 

NMMS scholarship: Procedure for NMMS scholarship selection

Each state and union territory administers a selection test that incorporates mental and academic aptitude tests. NCERT sets the standards for these tests. To qualify for the scholarship, the applicants must pass the below-mentioned exams. Scholarships are given to the candidates based on this exam, and the maximum time allowed for the student to finish this test is 90 minutes. Students with unique abilities will be permitted extra time to complete the exam.

Mental ability test (MAT)

This examination looks at the candidate’s critical thinking and reasoning skills. There are 90 multiple-choice questions in this test, which cover the following subjects:

  • Analogue
  • Hidden figure
  • Pattern
  • Perception
  • Numerical series
  • Classification

Scholastic aptitude test (SAT)

The 7th and 8th-grade curriculum served as the basis for this test. In this test, there are 90 multiple-choice questions. This exam covers the following topics:

  • Arithmetic
  • Social science
  • Science

NMMS scholarship: Needed documents for scholarship application

The documents must have the school’s and each principal’s signatures.

  • A pair of passport-size photos.
  • A copy of the SC/ST certificate.
  • A certificate of income from the competent authority that does not exceed Rs. 1.5 lakh.
  • The competent authority’s disability status certificate.
  • A photocopy of the most recent passing exam report card.
  • Domicile certificate

 

NMMS scholarship: Application

Students must submit their online or paper applications for the NMMS scholarship before the deadline to prevent any trouble. There will be online and offline exam registration options for the NMMS exam.

  • Students must visit scholarships.gov.in, the National Scholarship Portal’s official website, to apply for the NMMS scholarship.

  • Hit the “new registration” button on the NPS site.

  • To continue, select the undertaking after carefully reading the instructions.

  • Provide the following details:
    • Applicant’s name
    • Date of birth
    • Mobile number
    • Email ID
  • Choose the applicant’s state of residence, scholarship category, scheme type and gender.

 

  • Specify the bank information, such as bank name, IFSC code, and account number.
  • Tap the “register” button after selecting either the Aadhaar or the bank account number as your means of identification.
  • After the contact number has been validated, you will receive an OTP.
  • Fill out the form and log in with your OTP now.

  • There will be a generated application ID and password. Note that for future use.
  • The applicant will have their application denied unless they complete the process by the deadline.

 

NMMS scholarship: How can I fill out the NMMS application form offline?

Online application for the NMMS scholarship for the current year is very different from offline one. To receive the necessary help, students must submit their NMMS application form to the school.

  • The initial step is to get an application form from the relevant schools.
  • Take a printout of the NMMS application form, and then fill it with all the necessary information in capital letters.
  • Make sure to neatly fill out all the information and refrain from overwriting.
  • Students must include all necessary paperwork, including their diploma, caste certificate, proof of income, and a copy of their address.
  • After finishing the procedure, students must submit the NMMS application form to their school or institute.
  • Students must pick up admit cards from the school a few days before the exam.
  • Students whose application forms were chosen can get that from the school head office.

 

NMMS scholarship reward

  • An annual scholarship of Rs.12000 as 1000 per month is given to a select group of students for grades IX through XII at state government, government-aided, and local body schools. 
  • During November each year, the MCM scholarship becomes active, and about 100,000 scholarships are awarded to deserving students.
  • The bank accounts into which the authority will place the scholarship money must be opened by each student who made the merit list.

 

Renewal of scholarship

Suppose the candidate receives a clear promotion into a higher class each year. In that case, the scholarship is continued each year until the student completes higher secondary education in class 12.
