May 22, 2023: State Bank of India (SBI) on May 20, 2023, said the customers could exchange their Rs 2,000 notes at its branches without obtaining any requisition slip. No identity proof like Aadhaar is required either at the time of exchanging of notes, India’s largest public lender clarified.
Customers can exchange up to 10 notes of the denomination i.e. Rs 20,0000 at a time.
“The facility of exchange of Rs 2,000 notes to all members of the public up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time will be allowed without obtaining any requisition slip. No identity proof is required to be submitted by the tenderer at the time of exchange,” the bank said.
What is a requisition/request slip?
A requisition/request slip is used to make a formal request for an item or service.
Rs 2,000 note ban
The Reserve Bank of India on May 19, 2023, said it was withdrawing Rs 2,000 currency notes from circulation, giving users time till September 30 this year to get these notes either exchanged or deposited in a customer’s bank account. The window to deposit/exchange the notes starts on May 23, 2023. Till September 30 this year, the Rs 2,000 notes will be valid. These can be used for all transactions, the RBI has clarified.
