Noida, Greater Noida residents launch ‘No registry, No vote’ campaign

Residents allege that despite taking possession of the flats a decade ago, they are still awaiting ownership rights.

March 29, 2024: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, a coalition of thousands of homebuyers and residents from various societies in Noida and Greater Noida West has initiated the “No Registry, No Vote” campaign. Frustrated by unfulfilled promises and eager to secure the registration of their flats, the residents have pledged to abstain from participating in the electoral process until the local authority addresses their demand.

Posters displaying the slogan “No registry, no vote” have emerged on gates and walls across multiple apartment complexes in Noida and Greater Noida. These posters also appeal to BJP MP and former union minister Dr Mahesh Sharma, urging his intervention to address the residents’ request for flat registration.

The protest has gained momentum, particularly in several residential complexes such as Gardenia Glory in Sector 46, Noida, Futec Gateway in Sector 75, Noida, and Himalayan Pride, Nirala Greens, and Nirala Global in Greater Noida West. In Sector 75’s Futec Gateway, approximately 566 homebuyers have been awaiting their registrations since 2015. Meanwhile, at Gardenia Glory society in Sector 46, 1,450 homebuyers have been in anticipation since 2016. In Greater Noida West, the buyers of 250 flats at Himalaya Pride society in Techzone 4 have been awaiting their registrations since 2020. Similarly, at Nirala Greenshire society in Sector 2, the buyers of 500 flats have been awaiting registrations since 2020, constituting a total of 1,035 flats.

Although there have been reports of some progress, such as the builder of Nirala Greens recently depositing 25% of the outstanding dues to the authority, residents remain resolute in their struggle for complete resolution of their grievances. Residents allege that despite taking possession of the flats a decade ago, they are still awaiting ownership rights. They assert that they have made full payments for their flats years ago, yet they are being denied their rightful property ownership.
