Odisha Metro: DMRC submits DPR

The first phase of the metro route will connect Trisulia near Cuttack to Biju Patnaik International Airport.

August 17,2023: After taking into consideration and evaluating the traffic survey, the geo-technical investigation, the topo-graphic survey, environmental and social impact assessments, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) completed the detailed project report (DPR) and submitted to the chief secretary P K Jena on August 16, 2023.

According to the DPR, phase-1 will cover 26 km and have 20 stations. These will include Bhubaneswar Metro Rail will cover Biju Patnaik Airport, Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapujinagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vanivihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zooligical Pak, Phulapokhari and Trisulia Square, Cuttack covering a total length of 26 km with 20 stations.

Odisha Metro announced

On the occasion of Utkala Dibasa, the statehood day of Odisha, chief minister Naveen Patnaik on April 1, 2023, announced a Metro project that will cover a 100-km route from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to Khurda and Puri.

To be divided into phases, the metro project in Odisha will be based on elevated corridors. According to media reports, Patnaik said the project would be entirely funded by the state government. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is the consultant for this project.

The first phase of the metro route will connect Trisulia near Cuttack to the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.  The proposed stations in this route include the airport, the Bhubaneswar railway station, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Nandan Kanan, Patia and Trishulia. Further, the metro will be expanded to Khurda and Puri.

Odisha Metro: Status on when work starts 

According to media reports, Usha Devi, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Odisha, mentioned that work on metro rail project in the Bhubaneswar capital region will start by end of 2023.

“Initially, the metro rail will run between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. It will later be extended to Jatni and Puri,” said G Mathi Vathanan, department secretary, as per media reports.

With the Odisha metro rail, the time taken to cover 64 km between Puri and Bhubaneswar will be reduced to less than 30 min.
