The Odisha government plans to sanction 9 lakh pucca houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to beneficiaries by June 2023. Work orders in this regard have to be issued by January 2023, say media reports.
According to the reports, district collectors in the state have been directed to display the beneficiary list in panchayat offices for a period of 10 days before issuing work orders. People can file their complaints in the boxes outside the panchayat offices in case of an issue. They can also file the complaint online or call on toll-free number 1800-3456-768. BDOs have been made responsible for taking images of the PMAY houses and submitting them for geotagging.
Official data show the Centre allotted 2,695,837 houses to Odisha under the PMAY-G between April 2016 and December 2022. Of this, 1,836,367 homes were sanctioned by the state government and construction work for 17,13,224 houses has been comploted till date. Odisha is in fact among the top-five states, which has been given the maximum target of houses under PMAY by the centre. However, the state has only completed construction of 835,436 houses in the past 3 years.
