As many as 15,273 of the small flat allottees owe the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) pending rent dues that have piled up to Rs 52.10 crore. The CHB has uploaded the list of defaulters on its website, directing them to clear all pending dues in the next 10 days to avoid allotment cancellation.
The CHB had allotted around 16,000 flats under the Small Flats Scheme, and around 2,000 flats under the Affordable Rental Housing Complex Scheme. These flats are located in Sectors 49, 56, 38 (West), Dhanas, Industrial Area, Mauli Jagran, Ram Darbar and Maloya. Of the 15,273 defaulters, the maximum of 7,008 are from Dhanas, followed by 2,018 from Maloya and 1,388 from Mauli Jagran, said a CHB official.
Those whose allotment is cancelled will have to vacate their flats at once. Only after proving his/her bonafide and paying the pending dues along with interest and revival charges can the flat be restored to the tenant. The outstanding dues can be paid online on the CHB’s website or offline at any of the Sampark centres.
According to the CHB official, these flats had been allotted for the occupation of the allottee and their families on monthly licence fee, and these flats cannot be sold/sublet/transferred/handed over to other persons. The board has already cancelled the allotment of 68 allottees due to unauthorised occupants. In case, any allottee does not want to occupy the flat, they can surrender the flats to CHB and get a refund of the security amount, if any.
