GDMA to revamp 5 Gurugram roads for Dwarka Expressway connectivity

The redevelopment of the 7.5-km network of Gurugram roads is estimated to cost Rs 79.33 crore.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has decided to redevelop five arterial roads between sectors 99 and 115 to connect traffic to the Dwarka Expressway once it is open for public use. The construction of the Gurugram section of the expressway has been completed and is expected to open soon. The decision to revamp the 7.5-km network of Gurugram roads was taken at the 62nd CPC meeting headed by GMDA CEO PC Meena. The reconstruction is estimated to cost Rs 79.33 crore.

The roads to be redeveloped include the 1.3-km master road dividing sectors 102 and 102A, the 1.86-km master road dividing sectors 106 and 109, the 780-m road dividing sector 114 outer, the 1.8-km master road dividing sectors 102A and 103 and the 1.8-km road dividing sectors 106 and 103. As part of the project, the reconstruction of the existing six-lane main carriageway along with the footpath and drainage network will also be undertaken.

At present, these roads are unmotorable and riddled with potholes. In addition to ensuring seamless connectivity between the expressway and different parts of Gurugram, the revamped roads will also ease the traffic congestion within the city. According to GMDA officials, the master roads between sectors 102 and 102A and sectors 102A and 103 will be important as the construction of the upcoming Sheetla Mata Medical College and Hospital is going on in Sector 102A. Besides, the master road between sectors 102 and 102A will also provide connectivity from Hero Honda Chowk to AIIMS.

The GMDA is planning to complete the tendering process within three months as it would take around nine months after the allotment of work for project completion. The engineering wing has been directed to conduct a preliminary study to identify critical points and intersections where the construction of underpasses, flyovers and foot overbridges can be undertaken in the future.
