Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 16th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan) at a public event in Yavatmal, Maharashtra on February 28, 2025. The PM releases an amount of more than Rs 21,000 crore through direct benefits transfer to beneficiaries.

What is PM Kisan KYC/PM Kisan eKYC?

KYC is the short for know your customer, a term used for customer identification process. KYC involves making efforts to determine the true identity of the beneficiary. The objective of the KYC is to prevent money laundering. To complete this PM Kisan KYC beneficiary identification process, PM Kisan beneficiaries have to provide their Aadhaar number.

4 ways to complete PM Kisan KYC online/offline

PM Kisan KYC cam be done:

Online

  1. On the PM Kisan web portal
  2. Through the face authentication on mobile
  3. Through PM Kisan mobile app

Offline

4. At Common Service Center

Steps for OTP-based PM Kisan KYC on web portal

Step 1: Go to the official PM Kisan website, and you will find the ‘e-KYC’ option under the ‘Farmers Corner’, towards the right side of the page.

Step 2: On the next page, provide your Aadhaar number. Click on the ‘Search’ option.

Step 3: You will now receive a 4-digit OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter this on the next page and click on ‘Submit OTP’ option. With this, your PM Kisan eKYC will be complete.

In case the information provided by you is not valid, the PM Kisan eKYC will not be complete. Those who have already completed their PM Kisan eKYC will get a message that eKYC is already done.

Note: An OTP (one-time password) is a system generated numeric or alphanumeric characters that authenticate a user for a single transaction. An OTP is sent on the registered mobile number of the farmer in this instance. 

OTP-based PM Kisan KYC on mobile

About 20 lakh farmers have successfully completed their e-KYC since the launch of the PM Kisan application.

Step 1: Go to the official PM Kisan mobile app. You will find the ‘e-KYC’ option under the ‘Farmers Corner’ towards the right side of the page.

Step 2: On the next page, provide your Aadhaar number. Click on the ‘Search’ option.

Step 3: You will now receive a 4-digit OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter this on the next page and click on ‘Submit OTP’ option. With this, your PM Kisan eKYC will be complete.

PM Kisan face-authentication KYC on mobile

Step 1: Download on the PM Kisan app from Google Play Store.

Step 2: On the PM Kisan mobile app, you will find the no user status module.

Step 3: Use the face authentication feature to complete e-KYC.

 

Biometric-based PM Kisan KYC offline

Step 1: To complete PM Kisan eKYC offline, visit your nearest Common Service Center. To find the nearest CSC, click here. Do not forget to carry your Aadhaar card and registered mobile number, when you visit the CSC.

Step 2: Provide your Aadhaar and other details to the CSC operator.

Step 3: Also provide your biometrics at the centre, including the thumb impression.

Step 4: Using his login, the CSC operator will enter the required details into the computer for biometric authentication. After this, your eKYC will be updated and you will receive a message on your mobile.

Will I be denied PM Kisan benefit if Aadhaar authentication is rejected?

Aadhaar authentication is subject to certain technological and biometric limitations such as poor fingerprint quality, network availability, etc. So, the service providers will have alternate processes to identify/ authenticate their beneficiaries/ customers, including exception handling mechanism at their point of presence so that residents are not denied entitlements due to technological or biometric limitations.

Over Rs 2.80 lakh crore released under PM Kisan to 11 cr farmers: Govt

December 6, 2023: The government has disbursed over Rs 2.80 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmers under its flagship PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan), Parliament was informed on December 5.

A farmer-centric digital infrastructure has ensured the benefits of the scheme reach all the farmers across the country without any involvement of the middlemen, Union minister of agriculture and farmers’ welfare Narendra Singh Tomar told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

2 lakh farmers completed e-KYC with PM Kisan app’s face authentication feature

August 14, 2023: Around 8 lakh farmers have accomplished their e-KYC the PM Kisan mobile app, agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply on August 11. During the pilot testing phase, over 2 lakh farmers completed their e-KYC across the nation using the PM Kisan mobile app’s face authentication feature, the minister added. The mobile app was launched in February 2020, with the provision for e-KYC through face authentication introduced in June 2023.

Aadhaar-based face authentication transactions cross 10.6 mn in May

June 29, 2023: Aadhaar-based face authentication transactions for service delivery are gaining momentum with monthly transactions in May touching an all time high of 10.6 million since its launch in October 2021. “Among many usages, it’s being used for registering beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana; for authentication of beneficiaries in the PM Kisan scheme and for generating digital life certificates at home by pensioners. It’s being used for marking staff attendance at several government departments and for opening bank accounts at a few leading banks via their business correspondents,” the ministry said.
