PM launches Agra Metro priority corridor

This metro route runs from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar.

March 6, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Agra Metro’s priority corridor that runs from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar through video conferencing. The new section will enhance connectivity to historical tourist places, the Prime Minister Office (PMO) said in a statement.

Stations on this route would include Taj East Gate, Basai Metro Station, Fatehabad Road Metro Station, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Jama Masjid. While the first 3 stations will be elevated, the other 3 will run underground. Five trains of 3 coaches will run on the Agra Metro Priority Stretch between 6 AM to 10 PM every day. Each train has the capacity to handle up to 700 passengers.

The foundation of the Agra Metro Rail was laid virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 7, 2020. The project is being implemented and undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh Rail metro Corporation (UPMRC). The estimated cost of the project is Rs 8,379 crore.
