PM Modi launches infra projects worth Rs 12,800 cr in Bihar

These projects are related to rail, road, petroleum and natural gas infrastructure

March 7, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6, 2024, unveiled infrastructure projects worth Rs 12,800 crore in Bihar’s West Champaran district. These projects, related to rail, road, petroleum and natural gas infrastructure, were inaugurated and their foundation stones laid during the ‘Viksit Bharat-Viksit Bihar’ function in Bettiah, the district headquarters of West Champaran. Among those present at the programme were governor Rajendra V Arlekar, deputy chief ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, as well as state minister and JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the 109-km-long Indian Oil’s Muzaffarpur-Motihari LPG pipeline, which aims to provide access to cleaner cooking fuel not only in the state but also in Nepal. Additionally, Modi dedicated Indian Oil’s LPG bottling plant and storage terminal at Motihari, which will serve as a strategic supply point for exporting petroleum products to Nepal and eight districts of north Bihar. This new facility in Motihari will also enhance the supply chain efficiency for markets connected to it.

Furthermore, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the city gas distribution project in East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Deoria, as well as grain-based ethanol facilities at Sugauli and Lauriya. He inaugurated the two-laning of the Piprakothi-Motihari-Raxaul section of National Highway-28A and the Sheohar-Sitamarhi section of NH-104.

Other projects initiated by Modi include the construction of a six-lane cable bridge on the Ganga river parallel to the Digha-Sonepur rail-cum-road bridge at Patna and the four-laning of Bakarpur Hat-Manikpur section of NH-19 bypass. He also mentioned ongoing work on over a dozen bridges in Bihar with an allocation of Rs 22,000 crore, including five structures on the river.

Regarding railway projects, the Prime Minister dedicated the doubling of the 62-km line from Bapudham Motihari to Piprahan and the gauge conversion of the Narkatiaganj-Gaunaha section. He laid the foundation stone for the doubling and electrification of the 96-km-long Gorakhpur Cantt–Valmiki Nagar rail line and the redevelopment of Bettiah station. Additionally, he flagged off two trains in the Narkatiaganj-Gaunaha and Raxaul-Jogbani sections.
