Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11, 2022, inaugurated Phase-1 of the Nagpur Metro. The PM also took a ride in the metro between Zero Mile Freedom Park and Khapri stations.
Phase-I covers a 40-km distance through 36 stations. Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 8,650 crore, Nagpur Metro Phase-1 includes the Orange Line and the Aqua Line.

Modi also laid the foundation stone for Nagpur Metro Phase-2 that will have 32 stations and cover 43.8 km. This project is estimated to be developed at around Rs 6,700 crore.
Meanwhile, Modi also inaugurated Phase-1 of the ‘Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg‘- Mumbai Nagpur Expressway. Covering 520 km, Phase-1 of the expressway connects Nagpur to Shirdi. The entire expressway is around 701 km and will pass through Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Washim, Buldhana, Jalna, Aurangabad, Nashik, Ahmednagar and Thane. Once completed, the Mumbai Nagpur expressway will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur from 15 hours to 8 hours.
