May 22, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Vande Bharat Express on May 25, 2023, which will connect Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun to Delhi. The train will start daily operations from May 29, 2023.
The Delhi Dehradun Vande Bharat Express is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities to around three and a half hours. Currently, the time taken to cover this distance is about six hours. There are six trains operating between Delhi and Dehradun, which include Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, Uttaranchal Express, Mussoorie Express, Dehradun-Indore, Ujjain Express, and Nanda Devi AC Superfast. These trains take around five and a half to over nine hours to cover the distance between the two cities.
Moreover, the upcoming Vande Bharat Express will boost tourism in the state with several tourist destinations such as Mussoorie, Haridwar and Rishikesh.
The Vande Bharat Express is a semi-high-speed indigenous train, which will also boost the economy in the state while creating jobs.
Delhi Dehradun Vande Bharat Express: Details
The Vande Bharat Express train will have 16 coaches, including 14 AC chair cars and two executive AC chair cars. It will accommodate 1,128 passengers.
The train has been manufactured using indigenous technology and designed with modern amenities. Some features of the train include automatic sliding doors, reclining seats in all classes and rotating seats in the executive class.
The Indian Railways plans to introduce 400 Vande Bharat trains across the country in the next three years.
