As per an official statement, the transplantation of trees will be completed in six months. The 29-km metro line connects Janakpuri West Metro station on the magenta line and the RK Ashram station on the blue line.

The Delhi government gave the nod to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on October 20, 2022, for the removal and transplantation of around 316 trees for the development of the Janakpuri – RK Ashram corridor. Trees from Derawal Nagar will be removed to pave way for the Delhi Metro phase 4 project.

According to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, this move will help provide better connectivity to another major section of Delhi and enable people to have access to cleaner transport and leave their vehicles behind.

He said that DMRC had been given approval for removing and transplanting 316 trees hindering the project, provided they compensate by planting 3,160 additional trees. He further added that a park was located in the Janakpuri – RK Ashram Metro route, and DMRC had sought clearance from the Delhi government for the transplantation of trees from the Derawal Nagar site. The site where the park is situated is where the metro corridor’s elevated and underground sections will meet.

As per the official statement from the chief minister’s office, of the 316 trees, 185 will be transplanted, and 131 will be cut. The DMRC will ensure that for all transplanted trees that do not survive, indigenous tree species 15-feet-high and at least 6-inch diameter are planted in the ratio of 1:5, as per the statement. The transplantation will be completed in six months.
