PM to inaugurate EWS housing project at Solapur’s Raynagar, next month

The project is being executed by the Mhada with assistance from PMAY.

September 18, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating a housing project at Raynagar, Solapur for the economically weaker sections (EWS) at Solapur, in Maharashtra, next month, mention media reports. The project is being executed by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) with assistance from the central government’s Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Spread over 100 acre, the project consists of 30,000 homes of which 15,000 homes are already built, mentioned Valsa Nair Singh, additional chief secretary, Maharashtra to media reporters at the Real Estate Forum 2023 organised by Naredco.

With a configuration of 300 sqft, each unit will cost around Rs 6 lakh for the beneficiaries. As it is targeted towards the EWS section, a family with annual income of less than Rs 3 lakh per year will be eligible for this scheme, among other eligibility requirements. Beneficiaries for this scheme include the unorganised workers, textile workers, beedi workers, construction workers, rag pickers and garment workers, mentioned media reports.

Also, at the forum, Singh mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed soon to start with the multi-thousand crore Dharavi redevelopment project. While the Adani Group won the bid for the Dharavi redevelopment, it has been challenged by Dubai-based Seclink Technology Corporation (STC) at the Bombay High Court.

As per media reports, Singh mentioned that by the end of the year, the government will be talking about at least ten such cluster projects, including the redevelopment of Kamathipura.

Under the new development, a push will be given to affordable housing, walking to work, bettering work-life balance, making home smarter, incentivising categories like senior citizens and students etc., Singh told the media. The policy, a draft of which will be posted in public domain, will also seek to address the issue of skilled manpower, she added.
