Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Modi Awaas Gharkul Yojana for OBC category beneficiaries in Maharashtra. The scheme envisages the construction of a total 10 lakh houses from FY 2023-24 to FY 2025-26. The Prime Minister will transfer the first instalment of Rs 375 crore to 2.5 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme.
The Maharashtra government, while presenting the Budget for the year 2023-2024, had announced the launch of the Modi Awas Gharkul Yojana to build 10 lakh houses for other backward classes in the state in three years. Beneficiaries who have not been able to have a house of their own under the Awas Plus scheme will be eligible to get one under the new scheme.
Modi Awaas Gharkul Yojana: Subsidy amount
Beneficiaries will receive Rs 1.20 lakh as government subsidy under the scheme for the construction of new house or to convert a kacchha house into a pacca house. The beneficiaries must have 269 sqft of area to build homes under the scheme. Funds will be credited to the beneficiary’s bank account as per the progress of house construction.
Modi Awaas Gharkul Yojana: Eligibility
- Beneficiary should belong to the Other Backward Classes of Maharashtra state.
- Beneficiaries should have resided in Maharashtra state for at least 15 years.
- The annual income of should not exceed Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand.
- Beneficiary should not have a pacca house in the state owned by himself or his family.
- Beneficiaries must have their own or government-provided land or can build a house where they have their own kachha house.
- The beneficiary family should not have availed of any government housing home loan schemes anywhere else in the state of Maharashtra.
- Once the benefit is availed the beneficiary will not be eligible to avail the benefit of the scheme again.
- The beneficiary should not be in the permanent waiting list under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.
Selection of beneficiaries under Modi Awaas Gharkul Yojana
Gram panchayats will be responsible for selecting the beneficiaries under the Scheme. While selecting the eligible beneficiaries, the gram sabha will give priority to widows, abandoned women, heads of families, victims of flood-affected areas, persons whose houses have been damaged (fire and other vandalism) due to communal riots, persons affected by natural calamities, persons with disabilities, etc.
