May 23, 2024: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is aiming to open the remaining stretch of the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, also known as the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway by November 2024.
The expressway currently is operational from Nagpur to Igatpuri. The section between Igatpuri and Amne Village, Thane spanning 78 km is under construction.
According to a FPJ report, a MSRDC official has confirmed that around 90% of work has been completed and around 1.8 km Khardi Bridge on Kasara Ghat is remaining. Also, work on the 8 km tunnel is complete. While the expressway has six lanes, it will narrow down to four lanes in the bridge.
While the expressway till Mumbai will start from August 2024, the bridge will have four lanes working initially and all six will be opened up by November 2024. The right of way (ROW) in forest area is 90 m and 120 m in non-forest area.
The Samruddhi Mahamarg route is designed for speeds of up to 120 km per hour on flat and non-hilly terrain and 100 km per hour on hilly areas.
The Phase-1 of the Samruddhi Mahamarg between Nagpur and Shirdi was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11, 2022. The Phase-2 of the Samruddhi Mahamarg from Shirdi to Igatpuri was inaugurated by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 26, 2023.
