Three New Cities – Three New Beginnings

For math enthusiasts, it’s the first odd prime number. For architects, it’s the number of spatial dimensions we live in. For the rest of you, it’s the number of Charlie’s angels. For Housing, it’s the number of cities we are expanding to. Because one is just not enough. Today, we bring to you Housing in three new cities – Hyderabad, Gurgaon and Pune.

Hyderabad

Housing’s expansion plan began uniquely: through a Facebook poll. As users flooded us with responses, Hyderabad emerged as the clear winner with 17,500 votes. And thus the preparations began, starting with the Telugu for Beginnersbooks!

And thus, shift location: Hyderabad. It’s the city where you get biryani everywhere and movie tickets, nowhere.  It’s like having time travelled to the 1960’s. The lax air, the unhurried pace, the delayed transactions. Well it’s a good thing we got a head start on this one! The offices to be set up, the recruitments to be accomplished, the data to be collected and verified, the photos to be clicked, the interface to be prepared, and finally, the website to be launched. That’s a long list and one herculean task for this laidback town. Many a plates of biryani, missed movies and delayed tasks later, Hyderabad is all set for Housing.

Pune

Try picturing twoscore employees hopping over each other’s laptop bags and files. We ran out of paper for ‘Watch your step’ signs. Playing Big Bad Wolf to our Pune office was the LBT strike. Even as the expansion plan lay ready on paper, it huffed and puffed and delayed the construction.  And so, what was to be a sprawling swanky office had to be packed into two small rooms that served as separate offices for the sales team and the data collection team. Shuttling office supplies and coordinating work schedules in makeshift offices, the team pulled off a near miracle!

Gurgaon

Gurgaon too was without an office for a while. The initial stage required us to resort to hotels for recruitments. As a few other companies were going through the same deal, the hotel was a huge conundrum of candidates and employers. As the clock clicked closer to lunch time, we were more than happy with the candidates chosen. With a last couple of spots left, an impressive youth sauntered in. A few questions into the interview, he seemed to fit just right for the job profile. Almost like that weird feeling you have when things seem just right, a little too right. And sure enough, he had entered the wrong room, and had been aiming for another company. But hey, once you have lived it the Housing way, you know you can’t settle for the rest. And so he works for Housing now. See what we mean by snatching the best pick!

To the Beginnings of A Tale of Three Cities

It’s time for the celebratory cakes to roll in. And from Mumbai we raise our glasses to the tale of three cities and a renewed home search. For Gurgaon – breaking out of the shadow of the satellite city of Delhi. For Hyderabad – the budding IT centre. For Pune – the perfect example of a culture retained in modernity. House hunting will change forever.
