Yamuna Expressway Authority to develop new city on Agra outskirts

The authority will appoint an architectural consultant for the preparation of the master plan.

November 23, 2023: The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) is planning to develop a new city on 10,500 hectare of land in the Agra region, according to media reports. This is Yeida’s first project along the Yamuna Expressway, connecting Greater Noida with the Agra region, since the time it was established on April 24, 2001. The development is aimed at promoting tourism and setting up of manufacturing-related units along with residential centres in an urban area along the Yamuna Expressway connecting Greater Noida with Agra. This will lead to industrial development, employment generation and overall growth in the region.

As cited in media reports, Arun Vir Singh, chief executive officer, Yeida said that the authority has decided to approve a development concept in its upcoming board meeting scheduled for November 2023 end. Once the board approves the plan, a master plan for the development of this new city will be prepared. After the master plan is approved, the authority will initiate the land acquisition process for the project. This will pave the way for the creation of new business opportunities in the Agra region.

The authority will appoint an architectural consultant for the preparation of the master plan that will mention the exact land usage in the new city on the outskirts of Agra.

Around two lakh hectare across 1,187 villages in six districts — Gautam Budh Nagar, Bulandshahar, Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura and Agra — were notified under Yeida. The authority has acquired only 20,000 hectare along the expressway to allot the same for development. So far, the development along the Yamuna Expressway has only been in the Gautam Budh Nagar district, which has the Noida International Airport, the proposed Film City and other mega industrial projects.
