3 Expressway projects in Maharashtra that will transform connectivity

These projects will boost connectivity and spur economic activity.

Maharashtra is high on construction of expressways, just like other states in the country. Mentioned are three infrastructure projects in the state that once completed will contribute to easy connectivity, enhanced trade and a stronger state position.

Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor

The 126-km access-controlled expressway will reduce travel time between Virar and Alibaug by 50%. Executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the Virar-Alibaug Multi Modal Corridor project will be developed in two phases. While phase- 1 will be constructed between Navghar and Balavali and will be a 96.41-km highway constructed. Phase-2 of the Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor will be constructed between Balavali and Alibaug and will be around 29.9-km.

The total project cost is estimated to be around Rs 55,000 crore. The Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor is expected to be completed and open for public by 2030.

Jalna –Nanded Expressway

The Jalna-Nanded Expressway will connect the Marathwada -Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli and Nanded to the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway. This proposed six-lane expressway will reduce the distance between Jalna and Nanded from 226 km to around 179 km. Additionally, the travel time between Nanded and Mumbai will be reduced to six hours from the current 12 hours.

The total project cost for the Jalna-Nanded Expressway is around Rs 14,500 crore.

Pune Ring Road

To be developed as an eight lane circular highway, the 173-km Pune Ring Road while improving the commuting routes will also open up investment avenues in 29 realty markets that are aligned with its route. The Ring Road will connect six major highways passing through the city namely the Pune-Bengaluru Highway (NH-48), the Pune-Nashik Highway (NH-60), the Pune-Mumbai Highway (NH-48), the Pune-Solapur Highway (NH-65), the Pune-Ahmednagar Highway (NH-753F) and the Pune-Saswad-Palkhi Marg (NH-965).

The estimate cost of the development of the Pune Ring Road is Rs 17,000 crore. The project is expected to be completed by 2026.
