Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and Space X has a number of marquee properties in his name. Here is a detailed note on his real estate assets in California

The CEO of Tesla and outer space transportation company, Space X, Elon Musk, recently announced on a social networking platform that he is giving up his physical possessions. Now, reports have emerged that two of his luxury mansions in Los Angeles are listed for sale on Zillow. Several media outlets have suggested that Musk owns at least seven properties in California state, which have a valuation of over $100 million. We look at some of Elon Musk’s property investments.

 

Elon Musk Bel Air Properties

There are two properties owned by Elon Musk in Los Angeles’ Bel Air neighbourhood which are now up for sale on property website Zillow for $30 million (seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms) and $9.5 million (five bedrooms, five bathrooms). This residential enclave is one of the most exclusive areas in the state.

The $9.5-million home is a ‘carefully preserved, unique, quirky and charming ranch-style former home of Gene Wilder’, as mentioned in the listing. The home overlooks the stream, white sand traps and Bel Air Country Club Golf Course. It is a 2,800-sq ft, five-bedroom home with a swimming pool and guest cottage, according to the listing updated on Zillow. The property was built in 1951 and is priced at $3,447 per sq ft, according to the property details mentioned in the listing. This units is moderately furnished, with heating and cooling features, basic interior features, a fireplace and appliances for daily needs. There is a parking space for five cars. Also, the annual tax liability for the property is $87,821, as mentioned on Zillow.

The $30-million home also ‘overlooks Bel Air Country Club and the city and the ocean beyond’, says the Zillow listing. This property is 30 years old and has been extensively remodeled, with modern interior finishes. The property has a large master suite, with a double-storey library, a family wing, a theater, a two-room guest suite and a tennis court, according to the property listing. The mansion also has a wine cellar, a private swimming pool, a vast grass yard and a fruit orchard. With hardwood flooring and total interior area of 16,251 sq ft, this mansion is also moderately furnished with modest features, including heating and cooling facility, basic exterior and interior décor. According to Zillow, it is a three-storey property and was remodeled in 2016. The annual tax liability for this property is $2,22,933. According to Business Insider, Musk bought this property for $17 million in 2012.

Musk has around four more properties in this neighbourhood. One of them was purchased for $24 million in 2016, when the villa was still under-construction. In July 2015, Musk bought a 7,026-sq ft house with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms for $20 million. According to the news reports, this mansion was constructed in 1954 and was heavily remodeled in 2009. In the same month, the tech-entrepreneur purchased another house in the same neighbourhood for $4.3 million.

 

Elon Musk Brentwood property

Elon Musk also previously owned a boomerang-shaped house in Brentwood, California which he bought for $3.7 million in 2014, according to the property website Dirt. As per media reports, this house is surrounded by privacy hedges for security reasons and has floor-to-ceiling windows, which accentuate the extravagance of the property. Musk sold this property in August 2019 for $4 million.

Brentwood is another luxurious area in Los Angeles, where most of the properties are owned by Hollywood celebrities. It is one of the wealthiest areas in the city and stars such as Harrison Ford, Steve McQueen, Cindy Crawford, Gwyneth Paltrow and Arnold Schwarzenegger own a home here, according to TripSavvy.com.

 

Elon Musk Hillsborough property

Also known as Guigne Court, this is a 100-year-old mansion which Musk bought for $23 million in June 2017. According to various media outlets, the asking value of this mansion was $100 million but the value went down significantly for unknown reasons. The mansion is very close to Tesla’s headquarters and has undergone significant remodeling and modernisation, to suit Musk’s tastes. It is located on a leafy hilltop and includes a ballroom, five bedrooms and a staff wing, which has six additional bedrooms and three bathrooms, according to the Wall Street Journal. Hillsborough is a suburb of San Francisco and is considered as one of the best places to live in California.
