July 19, 2024: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has said that the Yellow Line Metro will open by December 2024, with at least eight trains operating at 15-minute intervals, as mentioned in media reports. Earlier, the metro agency planned to open the line with six to seven trains and a 20-minute frequency.
According to the BMRCL, the major civil and system works for the Rs 5,745-crore Yellow Line project, which covers 19.15 kilometre (km) from RV Road to Bommasandra, is nearly complete. The line includes 16 stations, including key stops such as Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, the infamous Silk Board Junction and Electronics City.
Jayadeva Hospital will serve as an interchange hub. It will be the tallest metro station in India at 39 metres in length with a six-level structure that includes an underpass, road, flyover, Yellow Line platform, concourse, and a Pink Line platform.
The BMRCL started full-scale trial operations on the Yellow Line on June 13, 2024, using a prototype six-coach train imported from China earlier this year. These trial runs, which include oscillation and safety tests, are expected to wrap up by September or October, paving the way for commercial services to begin in December 2024 if the required number of trains are available.
The Bangalore Metro Yellow Line project is being developed at a cost of Rs 798 crore. The upcoming metro route is expected to boost connectivity in the eastern and western parts of the city, including prominent industrial hubs.
