BMC to issue revised property tax bills by Jan-end

This bill will not include the 15-20% hike that was charged by mistake in December 2023.

January 24, 2024: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will send revised property tax bills for FY 2023-24 to owners in the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) or Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area by January-end. The revised bill will be not include the 15-20% increase that was charged by mistake in December 2023.

The BMC in December 2023 issued an ad-hoc property tax bill that showed a hike of up to 20%, creating confusion among property taxpayers of a sudden unannounced rise in property tax rates. The BMC immediately issued a statement mentioning that new bills will be issued where the amount will be the same as the property tax paid for FY2022-23, indicating that there was no hike in property tax.

All property tax payers who have paid their property tax bills with respect to the bills issued in December 2023, the amount will be adjusted in future bills.
