April 15, 2024: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on April 12, 2024 issued a release mentioning that strict action will be taken against all people who do not pay the property tax by May 25, 2024. This is the deadline set by the municipal corporation for the property tax for FY 23-24.

According to media reports, the BMC has not yet mentioned about the action the municipal body plans to take on the property owners.

The BMC also launched an awareness program through media, social media etc. so that people can make the payment before the deadline. Additionally, the BMC has mentioned that its ward officer and citizens’ facilitation centres will be open on holidays also for all property owners who want to pay their property tax before the deadline.

Last week, the BMC announced that starting May 1, it is compulsory for all commercial establishments to have signboards in Marathi  or Devnagri script. Failure to do so will result in the property owner having to pay double property tax.
