Centre approves Pune Metro extension between Pimpri and Nigdi

The extension will be 4.413 km and have three stations.

October 25, 2023:  The extension of the Pune Metro from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi was approved by the Centre on October 23, 2023.

Present on Line 1, the 4.413 km route will be elevated from Pimpri to Swargate and will include three stations- Chinchwad, Akurdi and Nigdi.  The project is estimated to be constructed for over Rs 910 crore and is expected to be completed by 2027. With this approval in hand, Maha Metro has started work on the road map for these three stations and tenders for the project will be soon called for. Once completed, the Pune Metro network will be around 37.613 km connecting 33 stations.

The Pune Metro has two lines- Line 1 also known as the Purple Line and Line 2 also known as the Aqua Line. Partial operations of both the lines were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi March 2022. Modi also inaugurated the extension of the two new stretches -from Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic and Civil Court to Phugewadi on August 1, 2023.
