February 28, 2024: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena, on February 27, 2024, inaugurated a DDA sports complex at Qutubgarh village, which he has adopted for development as a model village. The foundation stone of the sports complex was laid in October 2023, and the entire project has been completed at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
The complex offers extensive amenities including an open gym, jogging tracks and volleyball, badminton and kabaddi courts for both men and women. Additionally, there is an extended air-conditioned multipurpose hall covering approximately 216 square metres (sqm).
During the inauguration, the L-G expressed the aim to establish a sports complex in every village in Delhi. He also announced collaborations with Indian Oil and the Indian Army to provide experienced coaches for advanced training facilities.
Currently, DDA operates 16 sports complexes, three mini sports complexes, two public golf courses, 17 swimming pools, and 40 multi-gyms. Furthermore, centres of excellence are underway in various sports such as wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, judo, kabaddi, tennis, shooting, football, and hockey across different sectors of Dwarka. Additionally, a centre of excellence in aquatics is being established in Sector 33 Rohini. Moreover, a public golf course is being developed at Sector 24 Dwarka.
