June 14, 2023: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced its plans to extend the Pink Line by 12.55 kilometre (km), according to media reports. Once the extension, connecting Majlis Park station in the north and the Maujpur station in the east, is completed, the Pink Line will become the country’s first ring metro spanning 71.17 km.
The extension of the Pink Line is part of the Delhi Metro Phase 4 expansion project. The project includes the development of 65.10 km of new metro lines and 28 new stations at an estimated cost of Rs 35,000 crore. Currently, there are 38 metro stations on the Pink Line route that has been developed in a circle along the Inner Ring Road in Delhi. According to media reports, eight new metro stations will be introduced to the Ring Metro.
The construction of the Pink Line extension is expected to commence in 2023 and be completed by 2025. The metro extension will be constructed using the design-build method. The DMRC has awarded the contract for constructing the Pink Line extension to a consortium of three companies.
The Pink Line metro extension will provide connectivity between the north and east of Delhi while reducing traffic congestion on the roads.
