November 29, 2023: The Delhi Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) withdrew the order that it issued on September 11, 2023 directing sub registrars not to register properties violating the Unified Building Bye Laws (UBBL) for Delhi, 2016.
The new order issued by the Delhi RERA secretary stated, “Considering the various facts on record, the authority has decided to withdraw its order dated September 11, 2023 with immediate effect.”

Media reports suggest this is a result of a meeting between the Delhi chairman and Lt Governor V K Saxena, where the latter requested the RERA to revisit its order in view of the hardship it is causing to the people in Delhi.
According to the Delhi RERA’s September 11, 2023 order, the sub registrars were directed to not register properties that were constructed on plots beyond the number of units permitted as per its size. Additionally, the order added that building plans sanctioned after September 15, 2023, should highlight the total number of dwelling units that can be constructed on a plot with each unit marked separately in the plan.
