Delhi Metro’s Azadpur station in northeast Delhi has been planned to become a triple exchange point by 2023. The Azadpur metro station will connect with the Yellow line, Pink line and the upcoming Phase IV RK Ashram Marg – Janakpuri West metro corridor, which will ease commuting for Delhi residents.
A triple exchange point means that three lines of the Delhi Metro network will converge at one metro station, facilitating passengers to exchange trains for different routes. The Azadpur metro station is set to become the second triple interchange facility station after Kashmere Gate.
Currently, the Yellow line from Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre and Pink line from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar of the Delhi Metro connect at the Azadpur Metro station. The DMRC is planning to extend the Magenta Line under Delhi Metro Phase 4. One metro station of the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor will be constructed at the Azadpur metro station. The 28.92-km metro corridor is under construction and is expected to benefit 30,000 commuters daily. It will provide metro connectivity to localities such as Sadar Bazar, Pulbangash, Ghanta Ghar and Derawala Nagar through the Azadpur Metro Station. Areas such as Pitampura, Mangolpuri, Madhuban Chowk, Peera Garhi and Janakpuri will be connected with the new station.
The Union cabinet approved three of the six metro corrdors under Phase IV, including the Janakpuri West – RK Ashram metro line.
