January 10, 2024: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has re-issued tenders to engage private agencies for the operation of the Red Line and Green Line metro corridors. Originally initiated in October 2023 for the Red Line, the tender process faced a temporary halt due to technical reasons. On January 2, 2024, DMRC resumed the tender process for the Red Line and concurrently invited fresh bids for the Green Line.
Private agencies are expected to assume operational control of the Red and Green Lines by October-November 2024, with DMRC allocating approximately Rs 65 crore for the project. The selected private entities will be entrusted with metro operations on these lines for a six-year period. As part of their responsibilities, the private agencies will recruit and train their staff, including 221 drivers for the Red Line and 143 drivers for the Green Line.
The Red Line, the oldest corridor in the Delhi Metro network, spans from Rithala to Shaheed Sthal New Bus Stand Ghaziabad. Simultaneously, the Green Line connects Kirti Nagar to Inderlok and Bahadurgarh, covering a total distance of 64.2 km and serving 52 stations. The recent initiative to invite tenders for private operations also extended to the Violet Line, operating between Kashmere Gate and Ballabgarh. Currently, the Yellow Line remains the only corridor operated by a private company, running from Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre Gurgaon.
