Jewar Airport Metro DPR

In a high-level meeting scheduled for June 14, 2023, officials are likely to finalise the detailed project report of the Jewar Airport Metro project.  The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) on December 13, 2022, inked a pact with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) under which the latter will prepare a detailed project report for Phase-2 of the proposed metro corridor between the Jewar Airport in Noida and the IGI Airport in Delhi.

In October this year, the Yamuna Expressway authority has deposited Rs 2 crore with DMRC to prepare the DPR. Estimated to cost around Rs 13,000 crore, the proposed Metro corridor project will be funded by Noida authority, Greater Noida authority, Yeida, the Uttar Pradesh government and the Central government.

Under the plan, a 72-km metro corridor to connect the upcoming Jewar airport to the New Delhi Metro Station. From the NDLS metro station, passengers have the option to interchange and take the airport express metro to reach the IGI Airport.

“There will be two metro rail stretches — one between Noida Airport and Knowledge Park in Greater Noida and the other from Knowledge Park to New Delhi Railway Station — which are to be developed. From New Delhi Railway Station, there is already a connecting link to the Airport Express for Delhi airport,” YEIDA’s officer on special duty and nodal officer for the Jewar Airport Shailendra Bhatia told PTI.

Once this new line becomes operational, the distance between the Jewar Airport and the IGI airport can be covered in one hour, says DMRC. Phase-1 of the proposed Jewar airport is scheduled to be completed by September 2024, after the NCR’s second airport will open for public use.
