October 9, 2023: The Haryana Government has decided to waive interest and penalty of around Rs 8,000 crore on outstanding property taxes across the state. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar made the announcement at a press conference on October 6, 2023, in Chandigarh. He announced that a tax rebate of 15% would be given on the payment of property tax arrears.
According to a Moneycontrol report, the minister said that after his government introduced Property IDs, an online property management system, the incidence of property tax arrears in lakhs of properties has surfaced. The new move aims to benefit several property owners across the state.
The CM added that there might be some disputes or cases involving people who have paid their taxes, but the payment is not reflected in the system. To deal with such cases and ensure that maximum people gain from this scheme, the government will set up special camps where officials of the property tax department will be present with all the data and other information to help the people.
