HMRTC floats tenders for geo-technical survey for Gurgaon Metro

The metro project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,800 crore

June 7, 2023: The Gurgaon Metro project work is picking up pace as the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has opened tenders for a geo-technical survey of a 12.76-kilometre (km) section of the 28.6-km metro line, according to a Hindustan Times report. The metro project will extend the Metro rail line from Huda City Centre to Old Gurgaon and finally to CyberHub in a loop, connecting the entire city.

The project is being developed at an estimated Rs 6,800 crore. The Union Cabinet has approved metro connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City in Gurgaon, and a 1.5-km spur line to connect the Dwarka Expressway. According to the Haryana government, a branch from Palam Vihar to Dwarka’s Sector 21 will also be built to ensure that the route connects with the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line.

Project tender details

Officials said that the geo-technical consultant would provide a complete description of the soils and rocks along with the test result and analysis for every kilometre of the stretch.

According to the tender document floated by HMRTC on May 31, 2023, the geo-technical analysis will be conducted initially for a 12.76-km section from Huda City Centre to Sector 9, where a metro station has been proposed. The development work will cost an estimated Rs 50.14 lakh with a completion deadline of 16 weeks from the day of allotment, the document stated.

The last day for submission of bids is June 30, 2023, by 3.30 PM, while technical bids will be opened the same day at 5.30 PM, according to the notice issued by the HMRTC.

The activities that will be undertaken as part of the geo-technical survey include digging bore holes in rocks underground, conducting standard penetration tests, collecting soil samples from bore holes and recording water tables. The consultant will collect rock samples and conduct laboratory tests.

Samples of groundwater will be obtained from each bore hole and chemical tests will be conducted to check the acidity of water and the content of chlorides and sulphates present in the groundwater.

According to the tender, the consultant will prepare a report summarising details of soil, rock classifications, analysis of test data and recommend the type of foundations to be adopted and design calculations for the proposed elevated corridor.

On May 31, 2023, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) would start the civil work on the metro within a month. This would include shifting utilities and ensuring that the right of way is clear for laying the metro line.
