June 7, 2023: The New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida Authority) launched a crackdown on illegal farmhouses and structures constructed on the Yamuna riverbed and has demolished 32 structures, stated a Moneycontrol report.
According to an official statement, the authority said the demolition drive was conducted on June 6, 2023, across four villages near the Yamuna floodplain area in Noida sector 135, which include Nagli Nangla, Asadullapur, Chaprauli Bangar and Dostpur Mangrauli.
Stating that such demolition and anti-encroachment drives would continue, the authority explained that people had illegally built farmhouses and other buildings by encroaching 1.10 lakh square metre (sqm) of land 6on Yamuna flood plains across four villages in sector 135 and that it had undertaken the demolition drive against those structures.
Noida Authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari said any construction on the riverbed was illegal. She notified to the public not to indulge in any property purchasing or selling on flood plains. Such constructions would be demolished and appropriate legal action would also be taken against violators.
Noida Authority was constituted under UP Industrial Area Development Act, 1976 for undertaking a planned development of the city.
