Close to 1,700 homebuyers who had purchased units from the saleable component of Patra Chawl Goregoan, staged a protest on September 14, 2022 demanding immediate possession of their flats that are ready for more than eight years now. The protest was staged outside MHADA head office at Bandra (East). Â
According to moneycontrol.com report, officials of MHADA will meet an expert technical committee on September 26, 2022 to decide on the liabilities of the developers who are responsible for the Patra Chawl redevelopment, mentions a Moneycontrol report, post which a report is expected to be submitted to the Bombay High Court.
All builders will be informed about their liability and once the payment is done by each builder, the NOC can be released in eight days. However, MHADA has not given any fixed timelines.
Home buyers had booked their flats since 2012 through private developers — namely Ekta, Kalpataru and Sangam Lifespaces, which were responsible for the saleable portion of the Patra Chawl redevelopment project. The possession for the same was supposed to be given in 2016, according to home buyers.
In a statement, the delegation of home buyers from projects such as Kalpataru Radiance, Ekta Tripolis and The Luxor by Sangam Lifespaces said, “Over 1,700 home buyers who have paid more than Rs 3,000 crore collectively to the builders, Rs 500 crore towards GST and Rs 200 crore towards stamp duty are being deprived of possession since seven years.”
