How to correct PAN verification failure on UAN portal?

In case of failed PAN verification, the EPF member gets a message: Name against UAN does not match with the name in the Income Tax Department.

Linking your KYC documents with your EPF account is part of the EPFO KYC process. It is necessary to avail of many services offered by pension fund body in India. PAN is one of the KYC details that you need to link with your UAN to get the EPFO services. However, you may not be able to link your PAN with your UAN due to verification failure.

Reasons for EPF-PAN verification failure

Name mismatch on the Income Tax (I-T) Department and EPFO portals. In this case, you will have to correct the wrong name mentioned on it before you carry out PAN verification on the EPF portal.

Due to lack of integration between the I-T Department and the EPFO portals, users sometimes face problems even though there is no mismatch in their names on either of the sites.

In case of PAN verification failure, users may get the following messages when they attempt to link PAN with UAN:

*PAN verification failed. (Name against UAN does not match with the name in the Income Tax Department.)

*Error while PAN authentication, could not send message.

In case, there is no mismatch of details on either of the portals, here is how you can address the PAN verification failure.

Step 1: Go to the official page of EPFiGMS.

Step 2: On the top left side of the page, select the option ‘Register Grievance’.

Step 3: On the top right side of the page, you have the option to change your language from English to Hindi and vice-versa.

Step 4: Once you click on ‘Register Grievance’ option, a new page opens that will ask you to input your status: PF member, EPS pensioner, Employer, or Others. Select status as ‘PF member’.

Step 5: You will be asked to select ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ about your claim-ID. Select ‘No’.

Step 6: Once you select ‘No’, you will be asked to fill your UAN and security code. Click on ‘Get Details’ after that.

Step 7: At this point, your name, e-mail ID and mobile number will appear on the screen. Click on ‘Get OTP’ option to procced.

  1. Choose ‘PF Office’ against grievance related to.
  2. Choose ‘KYC Related Issues of Subscriber Pertaining PF Office’ option against grievance category.
  3. Provide grievance description.
  4. You can attach the PAN verification failure messages and proof of correct details as documentary proofs.

Step 12: Click on ‘Add’ and ‘Submit’.

Step 13: You will receive an SMS on your registered mobile number about the complaint. A mail to your registered e-mail ID will also be sent confirming the same. The PAN verification failure may be corrected within 48 hours.

Status check

You can track your EPFiGMS grievance status by following these simple steps.

Step 1: Go to the official page of EPFiGMS. On the top left side of the page, you will find ‘View Status’. Click on this option.

Step 2: On this page, you will have to provide details like the registration number (the number SMSed on your mobile after you lodged the complaint), grievance password (in case your grievance was registered on the earlier version of EPFiGMS), or your registered mobile number/e-mail address along with the security code.
