To view all the details of provident fund account online, you must know your Universal Account Number (UAN) issued by the EPFO and the password personally set by you. In case you forget your UAN password, you can change it anytime you want online. You can also reset your EPF password from time to time for security reasons.

Steps to change EPFO password online 

Step 1: Visit the UAN portal.

Step 3: Enter your UAN and Captcha shown on the next page. Click on Submit.

Step 4: On the next page, enter your name, date of birth and gender. Once you fill it, click on Verify.

Step 1: Go to UAN member portal. Click on the Forgot Password option.

Step 2: Enter your UAN. Also enter the Captcha appearing on the screen. Click on Submit.

Step 3: The following message will appear on the screen: “Do you wish to send OTP on the above mobile number?”  Select No since you don’t have UAN registered mobile number.

Step 4: Enter your name, your gender and date of birth. Click on Verify.

Step 5: Select Aadhar or PAN to proceed. Click on Verify.

Step 6: Enter your new mobile number to receive the OTP. Now, click on Get OTP.

Step 7: Enter the OTP received to your new mobile number. Click on Verify.

Step 8: Enter a new password in UAN member portal.

EPF members can update or reset their UAN password after logging in to an EPF account. Once they log in, they can go to the Account menu, where they would find the Change Password option.

8 characters at least

It must have at least eight digits, including letters, digits and special characters.

Must be alphanumeric

Your UAN password should be alphanumeric. This means it must be a combination of letters, digits and special characters.

Maximum 25 characters

Your UAN password should not exceed more than 25 characters.

1 special character must

The EPFO password should also have at least one special character. Special characters are:  !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, and ( ).

Upper-lower case

Some of the letters in the password must be in upper case and some in lower case.

Should not be easy

Don’t use easy-to-crack passwords for your UAN login.

Should not be used be common

Don’t use  the password you use for other purposes.

According to the Employees Provident Fund Organisation, follow these tips to steer clear of loss cyber fraud:

  1. Install a licensed anti-virus/anti-malware on your systems computer, laptop and smartphones.
  2. Keep your system updated and patched.
  3. Maintain a complex password.
  4. Do not share your password.
  5. In case you have forgotten the password or login ID, use the Forgot Password link to get it through SMS on your registered mobile number.
  6. In case your account is locked due to repeated use of the wrong password, use the Unlock account link.
