Steps to change EPFO password online
Step 1: Visit the UAN portal.
Step 2: On the homepage, click on ‘Forgot Password‘.
Step 3: Enter your UAN and Captcha shown on the next page. Click on Submit.
Step 4: On the next page, enter your name, date of birth and gender. Once you fill it, click on Verify.
Step 5: Provide your Aadhaar number and enter Captcha. Also, click on the undertaking to allow verification.
Step 6: Your Aadhaar number is verified. You will be asked to enter your mobile number to receive an OTP.
Right-check to give your consent to: “I hereby consent to provide my Aadhaar Number, Biometric and/or One Time Pin (OTP) data for Aadhaar-based authentication for the purpose of establishing my identity”.
Step 7: You will receive an OPT on your mobile. Enter an OTP and Captcha in the required field. Click on ‘Verify’.
Step 8: Create a new password. The password must have at least 8 characters, with at least 1 upper case letter, 1 special character and 1 number. Reenter the password to confirm it.
Step 9: Your UAN login password has been changed successfully.
How to change EPFO password without registered mobile number?
Step 1: Go to UAN member portal. Click on the Forgot Password option.
Step 2: Enter your UAN. Also enter the Captcha appearing on the screen. Click on Submit.
Step 3: The following message will appear on the screen: “Do you wish to send OTP on the above mobile number?” Select No since you don’t have UAN registered mobile number.
Step 4: Enter your name, your gender and date of birth. Click on Verify.
Step 5: Select Aadhar or PAN to proceed. Click on Verify.
Step 6: Enter your new mobile number to receive the OTP. Now, click on Get OTP.
Step 7: Enter the OTP received to your new mobile number. Click on Verify.
Step 8: Enter a new password in UAN member portal.
Steps to reset EPFO password
EPF members can update or reset their UAN password after logging in to an EPF account. Once they log in, they can go to the Account menu, where they would find the Change Password option.
EPFO password resetting tips
8 characters at least
It must have at least eight digits, including letters, digits and special characters.
Must be alphanumeric
Your UAN password should be alphanumeric. This means it must be a combination of letters, digits and special characters.
Maximum 25 characters
Your UAN password should not exceed more than 25 characters.
1 special character must
The EPFO password should also have at least one special character. Special characters are: !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, and ( ).
Upper-lower case
Some of the letters in the password must be in upper case and some in lower case.
Sample UAN password: aBc@1973
Should not be easy
Don’t use easy-to-crack passwords for your UAN login.
Should not be used be common
Don’t use the password you use for other purposes.

- Install a licensed anti-virus/anti-malware on your systems computer, laptop and smartphones.

- Maintain a complex password.
- Do not share your password.
- In case you have forgotten the password or login ID, use the Forgot Password link to get it through SMS on your registered mobile number.
- In case your account is locked due to repeated use of the wrong password, use the Unlock account link.
