India Smart City Conclave 2023 to be held in Indore on September 26-27

The President of India will present awards to the winners of the ISAC 2022 at the conclave.

September 25, 2023: The ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) is all set to organise the India Smart Cities Conclave (ISCC) 2023 on September 26 and 27. The conclave will be held at Brilliant Convention Centre, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, making it the fourth edition of the awards. During the event, president Droupadi Murmu will felicitate the winners of the India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC) 2022. 

The event is proposed to be conducted over two days, September 26 and 27. Day one will feature the inauguration of the exhibition followed by a brief demonstration of projects that have won awards under ISAC 2022. Additionally, the CEOs of smart cities will visit the respective sites and go through the projects implemented under the Smart Cities Mission in Indore and Ujjain.

The day two of the conclave will focus on the distribution of ISAC 2022 awards by the chief guests. As per reports, there are 66 winners of the ISAC awards. Additionally, 31 unique cities, five states/UT and seven partner organisations will be honoured by the president. The day will end with a cultural programme. 

Various dignitaries, including Mangubhai C. Patel, governor of Madhya Pradesh, Hardeep Singh Puri, minister of MoHUA, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Bhupendra Yadav, union minister for labour and employment, environment, forest and climate change, Ashwini Vaishnaw, union minister for electronics and information technology, communications and railways, Kaushal Kishore, MoS, MoHUA, and Bhupendra Singh, urban development minister of Madhya Pradesh, will be present at the conclave. 

The fourth edition of the ISAC was launched in April 2022 during the ‘Smart Cities-Smart Urbanization’ event in Surat. The award had two stages- the qualifying stage and the proposal stage. The former stage involved the overall assessment of the city’s performance, whereas the latter required the smart city to submit their nominations for the award.

ISAC Awards 2022

India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC) has been organised under the Smart Cities Mission, by the ministry of housing and urban affairs since 2018. To date, three editions of the awards have been held. The award primarily focuses on recognising the Indian cities that are leading a paradigm shift in the practice of city development by being at the forefront of urban innovation.

The ISAC award has six categories:

  • Project Awards (10 themes)
  • Innovation Awards (2 themes)
  • City Awards (2 themes- National and Zonal)
  • State Awards
  • UT Awards
  • Partners Awards (3 themes)

A total of 845 entries were received by the authorities from 80 qualifying cities that were evaluated and 66 final winners were identified.

Smart City Mission 

Smart Cities Mission was launched on June 25, 2015 and is aimed at offering a clean and sustainable environment, core infrastructure and a decent quality of life to their citizens through the application of ‘smart solutions’. As of today, 6,000+ projects worth more than Rs 1.1 lakh crore have been completed under this initiative and the remaining projects will be completed by June 30, 2024. 

One of the most notable milestones that has been achieved by the mission is the Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCC), which are operational in all 100 Smart Cities. All the Smart Cities have taken up projects across diverse sectors related to mobility, energy, water, sanitation, solid waste management, vibrant public spaces, social infrastructure, smart governance, etc.
